    On the Move

As if surrounded by a celestial halo, space shuttle Discovery made its way towards the expansive confines of NASA Kennedy Space Center's Vehicle Assembly Building following a move from its processing hangar on Sept. 9, 2010. A metal sling will be carefully connected to the spacecraft and then operators will hoist it from transfer aisle to the high reaches of the 52-story building before lowering it into place beside the external fuel tank and twin solid rocket boosters. Crews then will connect the spacecraft giving the stack its familiar launch day form. Discovery is targeted to liftoff on the 11-day STS-133 mission on Nov. 1 at 4:40 p.m. EDT. Traitors in the Media

Posted by Skip Stone on April 4th, 2009

What was it called? The Fourth Estate? All the pressure that the fucking Fourth Estate put on the Democrats when Bush was filling cabinet positions, Supreme Court Justices, and appointing criminals to the office of the Attorney General, with the asshole right-wing doing what the left was too fucking afraid to do wouldn’t you think something would be reported? What is needed is an boycott of all news outlets and their sponsors.

These are the assholes that are acting like they have a right to impose their right-wing crap on the rest of us. When will we be rid of assholes like these?

Department of Defense: Sens. Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) announced today that “they are blocking President Barack Obama’s nomination of Ashton Carter as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics.” The senators want assurances that Carter will not “change the criteria” on which the Pentagon considers a refueling tanker contract that could benefit defense contractors in their state.

Department of Veterans Affairs: Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) asked the Senate Veterans Affairs committee to delay voting on the “nomination of Tammy Duckworth, an injured Iraq war helicopter pilot, to be an assistant secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs.” Contacted by ThinkProgress, Burr’s Press Secretary, David Ward said that Burr is waiting for the answers to several questions he’s put to the White House and Duckworth, but would not disclose what those questions were.

White House Office of Legal Council: Dawn Johnsen’s nomination as head of the OLC has been delayed in part because Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) has ideological differences with her. As the Legal Times explained, “citing Johnsen’s criticisms of Bush national security policies, [Cornyn] accused her of lacking ‘the seriousness and necessary resolve’ to fight terrorism,” while “other Republicans have targeted her work as legal director for NARAL Pro-Choice America from 1988 to 1993.”

Department of State: Right wing commentators are working to block the appointment of Harold Koh to the State Department’s top legal adviser, smearing him as a “threat to democracy” for his being an international law expert. As the Century Foundation notes, “The fervent opponents of Harold Koh turn out to be enthusiastic defenders of John Yoo.”

Happy Marriage.

Posted by Skip Stone on August 10th, 2008

I was watching the news this morning before going to work. I saw a story about John Edwards’ infidelity. The media included a little tidbit that kind of pissed me off. What struck me was a statistic about whose marriage; the public thought was the happiest. It was The Edwards. What struck me was the fact that the media included this snippet in the piece on Edwards’ infidelity. This inferred that marital infidelity is associated with an unhappy marriage. How blunt, the truth is that Edwards and the woman he had the affair with spent a bit of time together and eventually, which always happen between humans an attraction develops. Now Edwards has already stated that the affair was based on ego rather than anything from home. So why did the media slip this in? I’ll tell you, it was to make the voting public feel that they have been fooled by the left. That the left are not the “good” people that they say they are, etc. What you don’t hear is the same stuff about the right in the media. How much was made of Ted Haggart? Not much it was here today gone tomorrow. But not with Edwards. This story will be around for a while.

Patriot Art

Give Up Your RightsThis sums it up for me. I have been hearing about internment camps in the U.S. I guess that there are plans in place to suspend the constitution and round up people. I also have been hearing about entrance and exit visas. Wow is it that close? Have I been sleeping that long? I saw Bill Maher the other night. He had Richard Dreyfuss on. Mr. Dreyfuss made the statement that if you don’t stand against torture, warrant less wiretaps, suspension of habeas corpus, then you stand for them.

What News

Posted by Skip Stone on July 10th, 2005

I have had it with tv and cable news. No reporting of the Valerie Plume outing. That is because it was a senior Whitehouse cretin that did it. I hope in vain that justice will be carried out but we all know that in this day of who shouts the loudest and with the most voices wins, I doubt that there will be anything of significance that emerges from this. Woe is me.

What independant press?

Posted by Skip Stone on May 17th, 2005

Trusting the mainstream media. That was the subject of the segment that I am commenting on. The newsweek thing is simple….What the Administration is doing is destroying the “independant media” Fox news is not independant. They spew the party line. If CNN does not start doing it too then they will be a target. WAKE UP! Fascism is on the march. One of the first things that Hitler did when he became chancellor of germany was to take control of the newspapers and the radio.
